Resilient Regional Areas

PRD’s latest home affordability survey classifies Mareeba – and the Tablelands – as a resilient regional area. In fact our region is in the top 12 affordable regional areas in all of Australia.

And the good news doesn’t stop there.

The report states “these areas not only have median price affordability but also demonstrate strong indicators for property investment, local employment growth and sustainable economic futures”.

When preparing the report the criteria methodology used included

Affordability: LGA has a median price below the maximum affordable property sale price (average loan + 20% deposit).

Property trends: positive price growth in te 2018 to 2019 period.

Investment: have an on-par average or higher rental yield than a capital city as well as a low vacancy rate.

Project development: a high estimated value of future project development with a high concentration of commercial and infrastructure projects to ensure a positive economic outlook.

Unemployment rate: As of December 2019 quarter have an on-par or lower unemployment rate comparied to the state average to ensure there is local job growth.

Here’s the results for our State:

  1. Douglas Shire
  2. Cairns Region
  3. Tablelands Region
  4. Livingstone Shire.
